Identity Theft And SSN Numbers Online Security What To Do About It

November 17th, 2008

Identity theft

There’s a lot to learn about whether it is blogging or a host of other things online.

When it comes to monetizing a blog, website etc. there are some important things to learn. Number one is NEVER give out your SSN, Social Security Number online, except to secure sites like the IRS …

When I started checking into online advertising for this blog I said wait a minute, “They are asking for my SSN. Eeeek.”

So, I searched high and low via Google and discovered a couple of sites that mentioned the issues around NOT giving out SSN numbers online. Each site pointed me in the direction of the IRS, Internal Revenue Service, online site.

You can go to the IRS and study all about the EIN and other information they provide. Learn and then decide for yourself if you need or want to complete the online EIN application. If you decide to get an EIN online it takes a few minutes and you get the EIN number instantly if all works out correctly.

There a person and citizen of the USA that is doing business online, making money online can get what is called and EIN, Employers Identification Number. The number can be gotten by filling out online forms the IRS provides. The process takes a few minutes. You need to complete the application within 20 minutes. I did not have all the information the IRS wanted. I had to stop and start again after getting the LLC information needed. The second time worked smoothly.

Upon completion a EIN is provided. Copy and save that number to give to places online instead of your SSN. At the end you can also download and save a PDF confirmation. If you’d prefer the entire process can be done via paper snail mail. You can also get a copy of the confirmation online via snail mail. Your choice.

Here are some links to sites I found helpful

How To Never Give Advertisers your Social Security Number At Creeva’s World 2.0

Tax Id Number for Sole Proprietorship Softduit Media

Quickly Receive an EIN Tax ID Number Online at the Associated Content site.

Each site offers good reasons why NOT to provide a SSN number online and all pointed to a solution on how and why to protect yourself online.  Education is as powerful as this technology.

Great to be able to accomplish so much so fast with Internet, but play it safe.

Now the hard part is to find ads to put on the blog.  :)

Wordpress Spell Checking in Rich Text Editor

November 20th, 2008

While writing in Wordpress on a desktop using IE, Internet Explorer, the spell checker in the rich text editor I use on this computer does not cut it, at least when using the Internet Explorer browser. Maybe I don’t get it? Using the spell checker provided is frustrating. Instead of that checker, right now I am concentrating on using Microsoft Word and the spell checker service that comes with it.  Difficult to get accustomed to.  Does not like the Wordpress title.  :)  Odd
