"Some" day touring route wet dreams information.
The Crabapple Lake kayak and canoe put in requires a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife parking permit.
Kayaking Crabapple Lake in the 7 Lakes region of Snohomish County Washington State isn't large but small packages can be surprisingly pleasant.
Location See the map for the exact location and to determine the distance from your starting point. Click on the map and see more details and ask Google how to get there.
Conditions This lake is semi protected from the winds that can blow on the lakes in this region.
While the crowds of jet skiers, water skiers, sunbathers crowd Lake Goodwin on warn sunny days if and when they ever arrive in the Western Washington, Crabapple is calmer noise and people wise. Crabapple doesn't have gasoline engines on the lake so the race crowd is not here. Plus they don't have the parking permit. Just down the road Wenberg Park on Lake Goodwin will have signs it is full on sunny days and Crabapple is quiet. OK, not so quiet because the roar of the speed boats on Lake Goodwin can be heard way off in the distance. Kind of like the roar of the hydros on Lake Washington can be heard around the Seattle area.
Warnings Cold water can kill. Wind happens. This and other lakes have under water snags. Trees fall and need to be taken in to consideration along the shoreline. Rainy calm days are paddle heaven here because people don't usually mow their lawns on rainy days. Plus it is quiet with little noise or wind if the weather is gray, depressing etc. Depressing days are some of the BEST paddling in many locations except where the scenery is important like mountain lakes and some other places. See the Perfect Day picture for the type of calmer quieter less insane days where the sound of rain and the birds can be heard rather then the roar of fossil fuel dinosaurs.
Paddle route The route around the shoreline of the lake is only about 1 mile. Spring time brings a wide variety of birds on the water and off. Lots of nature noise from the birds singing. Camp Killoqua a Camp Fire campground is located on the west end. This area is more natural in character with salmon berries and flowering shrubs, iris and more along the shore.
The east end features another more natural location with water lilies and forest. The rest of the lake is made up of homes but in a lest frightening setting. Most lakes the houses are packed in and the trees stripped. The human interruptus on Lake Crabapple is not too sickening. Thee are some eye sores but overall it is pleasant to check out and critique the cabins and homes.
Nature The May 28, 2010 was paddling with swallows diving alongside the kayak.
There are several RV parks in the area and some on Lake Goodwin.
Small cabins are located in the RV park behind the grocery store on the highway at the north end put-in. The store is just west of the county park. Lake Goodwin Resort Free Wi-Fi Internet Connection Full RV Hookups Tenting Cabins Gas Station Convenient Store & Deli Propane Firewood and much more.
This is a semi isolated WDFW water access site. It seems to be off the beaten path of the criminals that seem to lurk around other WDFW sites. Regular party crowd hangs out. Fishermen are more often then not there and sometimes fishing from the shore keeping the freaks in check? Knock on plastic. :) With that in mind don't keep anything you want in the vehicle.
