My industry, landscarping gardening, prime time is spring in the Seattle Washington areas. Spring here is April, May and into June. Starting sometime after 2004 the lawn mowing pages I have at

would disappear from the search indexes during the peak of the business season. The pages reappear months later after the peak of the season when landscaping oriented businesses get all the their work.
Keeping an eye on all phases of the SERPs that relate to your business as well as the web pages you own. Not only do you need to be concerned about the SERP and if your site(s) are indexed, but are your pages and forms, links etc. working properly.
Missing or being deleted out of the search indexes is a BIG problem. I think backlinks help establish and keep some sort of links online to your pages.
The best place for many types of businesses to get people to there site is in your real world and brick and mortar advertising. Ads in print, stationary, radio, TV and on your business walls and all advertising tells the world you site is open 24/7 for business.
